what are wrinkles?

As you age, you will naturally develop wrinkles as they are all part of growing older. However, they can be formed in a number of different ways.

Over the years, you can develop wrinkle lines around your mouth, your forehead and also your eyes — which are often referred to as crow's feet.

Meanwhile, static wrinkles appear due to the way you sleep, and gravity. They are deeper in your skin and cannot always be treated as successfully as dynamic wrinkles.

BOTOX injections work as a muscle relaxant which temporarily deactivates specific muscles so your lines become relaxed.

Made from the toxin produced by the bacterium clostridium botulinum, it is considered entirely safe to use to treat wrinkles and frown lines.

BOTOX has been used since 1989 and has been studied scientifically for many years. Approved by the FDA, BOTOX can temporarily soften lines around the eyes and forehead. The formula is popular because it gives natural, predictable results.

How Long Does BOTOX® Last?

BOTOX, as well as other injectables, are designed to alleviate fine lines and can minimize or eliminate wrinkles for about 3-6 months.

Typically, patients will see results from their BOTOX treatment over the course of a few days after having injections. However, it can take up to two weeks to notice full results and a smoother appearance to the skin. There can sometimes be a small amount of bruising at the injection site.

Dr. Abrishamy advocates a natural and refined look when injecting BOTOX. Unlike other practices, where your BOTOX treatment is typically carried out by a nurse, Dr. Abrishamy will conduct your treatment personally. When you come for your consultation he will discuss your needs and what you are looking to achieve with your treatment.

After you have had your injections, Dr. Abrishamy will be in contact with you two weeks after your treatment to see how you feel about the results. If you have any concerns, he is available to talk to you, and you may also come back in and see him for another appointment. Patients who have BOTOX say they feel like they look rested and refreshed. Overall, getting BOTOX is not considered to be painful by most patients. The minimal pain, if any, is compared to the pain felt when plucking eyebrows.

Alternative Injectables to BOTOX

In addition to BOTOX injections, Dr. Abrishamy offers Xeomin, Jeauveu, Dysport and Daxxify to help ease wrinkles and fine lines. These products are used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, as well as lines in the forehead and around the eyes. These formulas use the same toxin as BOTOX and can achieve similar results quickly and effectively. All of these products essentially work the same, but each has a unique "personality" of sorts, resulting in subtle differences in performance. What to expect at your appointment
